What’s a gal to do?

I glanced around quickly and realised that I was a long way from home.
“what–” I stared to ask. But as I turned around I realised that the Grand Tester was gone.
I started to look around for what I was supposed to do but I was in a busy city with new and strange magic. Everything lit up though I couldn’t see any fire and people held small bricks up to there ears and talked into them. I knew I must have looked odd standing there and staring but no one stopped to ask if I was lost or why I looked so confused, streams of people just walked on by as if I weren’t even there. I tried to talk to one of the people talking into their bricks but she shood me away angrily. One man was standing by a shiny post with a light of no fire on the top, I walked towards him but he breathed a cloud of strong smelling smoke towards me and coughing I fell back into the stream of people. They pushed me along and I was so confused and disheartened that I let myself be swept away.
Then I saw a side road, tiny and disused, I broke free of the crowd and run down it. At the end there was a young boy in shabby clothes, he was levitating an object from the top of a tall box. As soon as he saw me his eyes widened in surprise and he dropped the item, he looked straight into my eyes and I could feel power building. My eyes grew tired and I started thinking that there couldn’t possibly be anything more wonderful then to curl up and go to sleep right then and there but I knew what he was doing, the spell of sleeping was among the first a new apprentice learned. However all to soon my eyes were to heavy and before I could think of rallying my power my eyes were closed and there was darkness.
